Judi came to me with an idea to create a site where she could earn her living from anywhere; whether it’s at home next to her dog or while traveling abroad. Her only requirements were ad design that was modern and uncluttered, an easy way for folks to ask questions and an easy way for her to answer those questions.
From there, I concocted some moodboards to show her what kind of design I was planning on and a design based on the moodboard she picked. After that, I put the blinders on and build the best site I could for Judi, making it as easy as I could for her customers to ask their questions and for her to both answer them and see how successful she was at answering those questions.
Kristy manages the business at North Main Small Animal Clinic (North Main for short) and was pretty unsatisfied with the design and cost of upkeep of their previous site. I took one look at the site and one look at the company and saw they were polar opposites: on one side you have a friendly down-home kind of company and on the other side you have a cold, sterile website.
I took my inspiration from that friendly attitude and our local surroundings and started working. From the barn door background, to the brown kraft paper menu, the site seems to fit in here in Southwest Virginia. It doesn’t hurt that the site features Burnt Orange and Chicago Maroon—the official colors of Virginia Tech, which just happens to be in the same town.
WelGard®'s previous page was feeling busy and crowded, not the sort of image a business wants to portray. So, I sat down with the company and I worked out an interface that is cleaner. No longer overwhelming, users now have several easy choices that appeal to the products designed for them.
Chesapeake Tax & Accounting, LLC was looking for a redesign that was aligned with their clientele's needs and desires. I found a pleasing and professional color scheme and simple–but–strong typography that filled that need.
Realizing that the majority of their clientele might not be up–to–date with technology I decided on a 800x600 default resolution.
